Guitar Training and Judgement Tool
You are in Training-Mode. Use the arrow keys to navigate the possible chords and play them. The website will recognise when a chord was played and tell you if it was correct or incorrect.Help
This website helps you to improve your guitar playing skills. First grant the website access to the microphone of your computer and find a somewhat quiet location. Then, choose between Training Mode and Challenge Mode.
In Training Mode you can choose one of the available chords using the arrow keys on your keyboard and play it on your guitar. The website will recognise this and tell you if you hit all the correct strings and if not, which tones were wrong.
In Challenge Mode you can choose a song title and play it. Always play the currently shown chord. It comes down to timing here, too, as the next chord will scroll in according to the song!
Troubleshooting
I get no results
Are you sure you have a microphone installed on your computer, it is not muted and you have granted access to it to the website?
I still get no results
Did you play loud enough and not too far away from your computer? You should be not farther away than ½ meters.
About
We (that is Tilman and Martin) built this website as a mini-project for the class Music Processing Analysis at the Friedrich-Alexander University. As we both could not play the guitar our goal was to create a fun and easy way to learn playing it - without a teacher being needed.
We hope you like the website, but as we are relying on technology which is still shifting and not yet completely standardized things might break. Please drop us a notice in this case or fork our project at github. The analysis code is licensed GPL v2 by t.animal and finomnis, the website design is licensed CC-BY-NC-SA by t.animal.
We are proud to have realized this webiste completely in your browser (relying on javascript for analysis and CSS for animations)! So setting up your own copy is as easy as cloning our repo and deploying it on the webserver of your choice. However, this means a fairly recent browser is required, e.g. Chrome ≥ 47 or Firefox ≥ 38.
